Is Everything Back to Normal? January 26, 2010

Filed under: TSF Blogs — rapfestradio @ 1:59 pm

Can you believe we are 26 days into January already? Many were fasting for 21 days. It was definitely a cleansing for many of us but now is when the challenge really begins.

What will be the first thing you go back to 100%? Complete change and transformation will require the abandoning of many things we hold close to us… yes, even those things YOU THINK are good for you.

The Lord has been moving mightily during the past few Sundays at Sanctuary Fellowship and I have to think it’s from our corporate obedience to God in either fasting or reading the Word. So, is that it? Is it all over? Is “Everything back to normal?”

I urge and encourage each and everyone one of “us” to continue seeking God to the fullest as if we were still in the middle of the 21 day fast. God will speak through us. He will use us. He will perform great miracles and healing through us. It’s up to us to stay synchronized with HIM in order to be able to tune in to HIS voice on a regular.

We were created to Worship Him.. that was the norm.. so my question is….. “Is Everything Back to Normal?”

Let them SEE what you READ January 15, 2010

As we read the scriptures together every day, I was thinking … How many people do you see on the subway or on the bus on their way to work reading the Bible? How many people at your school, office, or job site actually take out 10-15 minutes per day to read the scripture?

It’s a very impacting statement when someone displays their Bible in the most unexpected places. You know how it goes…. Heads turn. Some people feel uncomfortable. Some might even mock us.

But here is something to think about…

Rather than just letting the world “see” the Bible you are reading, allow them to see the effect of the WORD you are reading through your actions, your words, your character, your walk.

LET THEM SEE WHAT YOU READ !!

Study to Show Thyself Approved… January 7, 2010

Filed under: BIBLE IN A YEAR — Jorge Martinez @ 10:42 am

Hey Fam,
I just wanted to clear something up right quick… As you know if you’re here, the church family has agreed to read through the entire bible this year starting as part of our fast and pressing on through the rest of the year to really read God’s word. I’ve spoken to a few people and it seems some are doing different reading plans than others. On the site, (linked on your right), there are 5 reading plans. It doesn’t really matter which one you chose but the one that most people are on and the one we recommend is the one called BEGINNING. This one starts at genesis and reads all the way through in that order. If you’ve started another and want to continue just go on. The point is to read through it and specially through this time of fasting, to really feast on God’s word and store it in your heart… I’m already hearing good reports and getting a lot of questions regarding the word of God and that’s a great place to be!
So press on people of God, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim 2:15
If you haven’t started yet, NOW is a perfect time to start. Just click on the BIBLE GATEWAY link on the right and start your daily reading today. If there are topics regarding the readings that you want to discuss you can come out every other Wed starting this coming wed the 13th at 7:00pm and be part of a discipleship class being led by Pastors Gary and Melissa. We can also leave comments here and maybe we can get into some blogging here about the word… bring it on…

PRESS ON PEOPLE January 5, 2010

Filed under: DANIEL FAST 2010 — Jorge Martinez @ 7:58 pm

Headaches, weariness, cravings, anybody cranky?

Press On People… that’s just our bodies showing us how addicted we are to caffeine and sweets… I promise it goes away and you’ll feel much batter after the first few days. Until it fades, press in and lets use the pain and the cravings to push us further towards the Father… These days of the fast actually make me feel guilty at times because we have the option to actually refrain from the king’s delicacies (sweets and flavored drinks, meats) while there are people all over the world who wouldn’t know what to do with all the food we ARE actually eating during this fast. What we consider sacrifice more than half of the world will go to sleep tonight with much less. it makes me grateful for the vegetables that we might not be too crazy about and for the peanuts and cranberries that we’re already getting sick of… So press on people – walk in gratitude because we GET TO fast and are not forced to..

Thank you Father for everything that you have supplied for us – please accept this small sacrifice on our part as our way of saying THANK YOU and telling you that without your sustenance all the food in the world would not satisfy…

So Press On my People,

Pastor Jorge

Here’s a picture of tonights dinner, Fried Rice with veggies, black beans and avocado… hardly a sacrifice at all !

DAY ONE January 4, 2010

Filed under: DANIEL FAST 2010 — Jorge Martinez @ 11:51 am

Ok Family – So here is where we’ll start blogging on what we’re experiencing during our time together. I’m excited about doing this with you all again and taking it to another level with the Bible reading. I can’t wait to start hearing and seeing how this time is going to leave lasting impacts.
So the first full Day ! We went shopping during the weekend and stocked the house full of Daniel Fast approved stuff.. There are still some cookies and stuff laying around the cabinets that will have to be ignored for now. We planned out the meals for the first week. There’s 9 of us in our house so we have to try to plan things like this or it will never work. Good Tip: PLAN… For the first week we have some dinners planned like, homemade veggie pizza on wheat dough, avocado and vegetable wraps, and whole wheat pasta and green beans. A Wok is the best thing to use for these meals because you can just throw some veggies into it and stir fry them fast, quick and in a hurry.
So start planning – start reading – start blogging and get ready for what’s in store…

TSF Daniel Fast Banner

Getting Ready  – DANIEL FAST 2010

Start here

Our Corporate Fast will begin Sunday, January 3rd after lunch and end Saturday, January 23rd after lunchtime

What is fasting? Biblical fasting is abstaining from food for spiritual purpose.

Purpose for fasting?

  • To seek God “When you seek me with all your hear, I will be found by you” (Jeremiah 29:13, 14).
  • To bring us into a deeper and more powerful relationship with God. “Deep calls unto deep” Psalm 42:7. David’s hunger and thirst for God was greater than his natural desire for food. As a result it brought him into a deeper and more intimate relationship with God.
  • The purpose of this fast is to humble ourselves and seek deeper and more powerful relationship with God. We want the Lord to have His way in our lives, families, ministry and churches.

The Bible teaches us that He is always at work and as a church we are looking to join Him, this year, in whatever He would call us to do, as individual churches and, as a corporate body of churches.

II Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Daniel Fast: Twenty-One Days - Daniel 10:2-3 “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks (21 days). I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”

The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, which means that we will eliminate some common things from our daily diet, but will have generous options available. We will focus on eating fruits & vegetables that are pure and simple. We have included a list of foods to eat & foods to avoid.

Biblical Model: Do a personal study of fasting. In the book of Daniel, chapters 2 and 10, Daniel describes two examples of his personal fasting and the dramatic results. Isaiah described God’s chosen fast in Isaiah 58. Jesus fasted in the wilderness (Matthew 4, etc.) and spoke of the necessity of fasting for believers. It was a normal part of early church life. Fasting is one way we respond to the admonition throughout the Scriptures to die to our self- will and not to accommodate the desires of the flesh.

Following your own conscience: The precise details of your fast are between you and God. In Romans 14, the apostle Paul describes how we should relate in love to one another in the matter of what we eat or choose not to eat. He says, “Each person is free to follow the convictions of his own conscience” (Romans 14, The Message). If you fast often, you may need to turn up your fasting another level during this time. If this is your first fast, you may not be able to endure as many restrictions as someone else who fasts frequently. In the future, live a “fasted lifestyle,” increasingly accommodating God and not the flesh.

Restricting television and entertainment: There is no talk of radio and TVs and there is no ban on iPods or computers anywhere in the Bible but then of course THEY DIDN’T HAVE ANY! It will be difficult for you to consecrate yourself if you feed yourself on television and movies and music in the same quantities or of the same quality as you have in the past. Take advantage of this time that you are setting yourself apart to God and be mindful of the MEDIA you’re feeding on as well. You may find as you grow and mature in your walk with God that there are certain things you will just not go back to once your fast is over.

Overview of the fast: The Daniel fast drastically restricts normal food intake by cutting away many of the foods you commonly eat to satisfy your appetite. During the Daniel fast, there will be a sense of hunger and a sense of sacrifice even when we eat. We recommend that you restrict yourself by not overdoing it on the things that you can eat. This will keep you from experiencing the sacrifices that a fast is calling us to make.

Important exceptions Anyone with a medical condition related to eating or under the treatment of a physician must consult their doctor. Children, especially small children, will have special needs that must be considered. Under these conditions, find some sacrifice in the area of food that can be made without endangering health. Also, if you have extreme difficulty with the fast, such as impairment of your ability to work at your job, you will have to make adjustments. This is not a failure of will but wisdom. Seek the Lord and discuss it with other Christians involved in the fast to find alternatives.
